Every chair has a lineage. Behind each braid, press and protective style sits a line of women and men who learnt the craft by hand, kept communities together in kitchens and salons, and passed their knowledge down without ever asking for recognition.

Fresh from her acclaimed exhibition Charlotte Mensah: Community Matters, Charlotte Mensah celebrates the unsung heroes of Black hair this Black History Month.

Join us for an evening honouring the care, craft and community behind the chair, and the stories passed down through generations.
